Author Guidelines

Applied Research in Science and Technology (ARESTE) welcomes original research articles, review papers, technical reports, case studies, and short communications that contribute significantly to the advancement of science and technology. Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Authors are required to submit manuscripts through the journal's Online Submission System. The corresponding author must confirm that the manuscript has not been submitted or published in another journal. Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned without review.


1. Manuscript Structure

  1. Title (maximum 14 words).
  2. Authors and Affiliations
    Include full names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and identify the corresponding author. Academic titles should not be included.
  3. Abstract and Keywords
    Maximum 200 words written in English (and Indonesian if applicable), followed by 3–5 keywords.
  4. Introduction
    Explain the research background, literature review, research gap, objectives, significance, and novelty.
  5. Methods
    Describe research design, participants, instruments, procedures, data sources, and analytical methods.
  6. Results and Discussion
    Present research findings clearly and discuss their implications by comparing them with previous studies.
  7. Conclusion
    Summarize the major findings and provide practical implications or recommendations.
  8. References
    List only references cited in the manuscript.

2. General Writing Format

  • A4 paper size.
  • Single spacing.
  • Times New Roman, 11 pt.
  • Length: 10–15 pages (4,000–7,000 words).
  • Top margin: 1.5 inches; Bottom margin: 0.8 inch.
  • Titles use sentence case, 14 pt, centered.
  • Main headings: UPPERCASE, Bold.
  • Subheadings: Bold, sentence case.
  • Sub-subheadings: Italic.
  • At least 80% of references should be published within the last 10 years.

3. Specific Writing Format

  • Equations should be numbered consecutively: (1), (2), (3), ...
  • Statistical outputs from software should be summarized in tables rather than copied directly.

4. Tables and Figures

  • Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively.
  • Table titles are placed above the table.
  • Figure captions are placed below the figure.
  • Sources and explanatory notes should appear below each table or figure.
  • Tables should contain only horizontal lines without vertical borders whenever possible.

5. Acknowledgement

Acknowledgements, if any, should appear before the References section and include recognition of funding agencies, institutional support, or individuals who contributed to the research.


6. Citation Style

ARESTE adopts the APA (American Psychological Association) citation style. Authors are strongly encouraged to use Mendeley Reference Manager or compatible reference management software.

Examples:

  • Smith (2020) argued that ...
  • (Johnson, 2019, p. 25)
  • (Brown, 2021; Miller, 2022)

7. References

Authors should include approximately 20–25 recent primary references. Only works cited within the manuscript should appear in the reference list.

Reference formatting must follow the latest edition of the APA Style.

9. Submission Procedure

  1. Submit manuscripts through the Online Submission System.
  2. Complete all author metadata during registration.
  3. Upload the manuscript in Microsoft Word format.
  4. Ensure all required supplementary files are included.

10. Editorial Decision

After completing the double-blind peer review process, one of the following editorial decisions will be communicated through the journal management system:

  1. Accepted
  2. Accepted with Minor Revision
  3. Accepted with Major Revision
  4. Rejected

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that the following requirements have been fulfilled:

  1. The manuscript is original and has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  2. The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  3. All available DOIs and URLs have been included in the reference list.
  4. The manuscript uses 11-point font, single spacing, and tables and figures are placed appropriately within the text.
  5. The manuscript complies with the journal's Author Guidelines and APA reference style.
  6. All identifying information has been removed from the manuscript to ensure a proper double-blind peer review.
